COLUMBIA, Md. — Police say a Columbia man set fire to an apartment building after he beat a woman who lives there.

Twenty-five-year-old Alejandro Rodriguez was arrested by warrant officers Saturday night and charged in connection with Friday night’s incident.

Howard County police say they were called to the building on Harpers Farm Road, where Rodriguez lives, on around 9:30 p.m. Friday. They found a 25-year-old woman suffering from injuries from an assault by a male resident. Police say a man on the second story began shouting obscenities at the officers, and shortly after, police saw the apartment was on fire. The man fled out a rear window.

No one was injured in the fire. Rodriguez faces charges including first-degree assault and first-degree arson.
