LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — A Manassas teenager has been charged in the March 28 rape of a 31-year-old Herndon woman.

The victim told Prince William County Police she was walking to the residence of an acquaintance in the area shortly before 11:15 p.m. when the suspect approached her and, displaying a handgun, forced her into a secluded area behind a townhouse nearby. She said he raped her, stole her cell phone and cash and fled the area on foot.

The 17-year-old, who was arrested Tuesday, is facing several charges in relation to the rape. Detectives also believe he was responsible for the armed robbery of Maplewood Barbershop on March 1 and the attempted robbery of the same location on March 28.

A court date for the teen has not been set, and he is being held at a juvenile detention center.
