WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — With the playoffs in sight, the Washington Capitals have dealt top prospect Filip Forsberg at the deadline in return for right-winger Martin Erat of the Nashville Predators.
Erat, 31, comes to the Caps along with a prospect: 21-year-old center Michael Latta, a 3rd-round pick by the Predators in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Latta has spent the entire 2012-13 season on Nashville’s AHL affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals.
Through 35 games this season, Erat has four goals and 17 assists for the Predators. He’s played all 723 of his NHL games with Nashville, and ranks second in team history with 163 goals and 318 assists.
The Capitals selected Forsberg with the 11th overall pick in 2012.
The Capitals are hoping for a boost to their playoff hopes; they stand in 10th in the Eastern Conference, two points away from eighth.
