LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) – The 5,500-seat BallPark at One Loudoun in Ashburn has been approved by the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors.

Two minor league franchises, Loudoun Hounds baseball and Virginia Cavalry FC soccer, plan to call the venue home. Ashburn Patch reports that the board also approved 12 fireworks displays and 17 concerts per year when they voted Wednesday night.

The last public hearing on the proposed park was held in March, and attendees expressed a variety of opinions on the plans. Some nearby residents think the added draw to the community could cause problems.

According to a Washington Post report, the stadium was originally approved in 2009 as part of a mixed-use development area called Kincora at the intersection of Routes 7 and 28. But, after Kincora officials failed to find funding for road improvements around the development, plans for the stadium were shifted to One Loudoun, which is located a mile west on Route 7.
