Gray to Take Water-Conservation Pledge

WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray is urging residents to use less water during the month of April.

Gray is participating in the National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation, a monthlong competition in which city leaders try to inspire residents to conserve water and reduce energy. Participants pledge online to cut their consumption.

Last year, residents from 1,000 cities pledged to save 4.7 billion gallons of water and reduce their use of single-use plastic water bottles by 1.1 million over the next 12 months.

Gray will discuss the pledge at a news conference on Tuesday morning. He’ll be joined by officials with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the USDA Forest Service, among others.
