LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — An overnight crash in Anne Arundel County killed three people and seriously injured a fourth person, police said.
Anne Arundel County police said they were called to the scene of a single-vehicle accident just after 12:30 a.m. Sunday on Piney Orchard Parkway in Odenton. Authorities said the car, a 2005 Subaru WRX, was traveling south on Piney Orchard Parkway just south of Riverscape Road at a high rate of speed when it struck a light pole, then a tree before rolling over and striking another tree.
Police say the driver, 22-year-old David D’augustine, was killed. Also killed were 22-year-old Samuel Schindler and 22-year-old Katherine Warrington. All three were from Odenton and pronounced dead at the scene.
Twenty-three-year-old Michael Phillip of Gambrills was critically injured. After it took rescue personnel more than 30 minutes to extricate him from the car, he was flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore with life-threatening injuries.
Investigators said excessive speed was a factor in the accident, but didn’t yet know if alcohol was involved.
Police said Piney Orchard Parkway was reopened by 8 a.m., but authorities remained on the scene as the investigation continues.
