LAUREL, Md. (CBSDC) – A teenager has been arrested and charged as an adult for allegedly firing a weapon at police officer in Laurel on Friday.

Police said Andre Christopher Rivers, 16, of Attleboro Court, allegedly fired a BB gun at the driver’s side door of an officer’s cruiser on Contee Road around 6 p.m.

The officer believed he was being fired on when he heard a projectile strike his vehicle, and immediately requested a search of the area.

Rivers was picked up near Edinburgh Lane and Contee Road a short time later.

The preliminary investigation reveals Rivers shot at the patrol officer with a BB gun, which was recovered.

Rivers was taken into custody without incident and has been charged as an adult with first-degree assault and related charges. He’s currently in police custody being held on $75,000.
