LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — A University of Maryland freshman is facing child pornography charges for a second time in four months after being caught in an undercover operation where he allegedly tried to arrange a sexual encounter with what he thought was a 12-year-old girl.

On March 18, Akshay Rajashekar, 18, responded to an online advertisement by a man willing to share his young daughter with another man, reports The Examiner. The advertisement was actually posted on Craigslist by detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department.

In his response to the ad, Rajashekar sent a number of pornographic images featuring children to a person who turned out to be a detective.

The pair continued speaking and arranged to meet in the District on Monday afternoon. Instead of meeting the man and his 12-year-old daughter, Rajashekar was taken into custody by authorities upon his arrival.

The State of Maryland has moved to revoke the $10,000 bond set in the November case where he is facing 30 counts of possession of child pornography and one count of possession with the intent to distribute and promote.

David Irwin, Rajashekar’s attorney in the Maryland case, tells WNEW it’s too early to say whether the federal charges will take priority over the charges in Maryland. He could not issue further comment on the latest arrest.

The Maryland student is currently being held without bond in Washington on the federal charges.
