WASHINGTON — Washington Mayor Vincent Gray has replaced the head of the district’s Department of Small and Local Business Development.
The district has been working to reform the department’s Certified Business Enterprise Program, which helps district-based companies win contracts. Deputy Mayor Victor Hoskins says the district is continuing to move forward aggressively with needed reforms in the program.
Gray says Harold Pettigrew is being replaced by Robert Summers, the agency’s chief of staff.
D.C. Council member Vincent B. Orange says he agrees that the program needs new leadership open to ideas that will benefit the CBE community. Pettigrew was criticized for a tweet last month that was interpreted by many as criticizing Orange’s leadership skills.
