LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Last March, President Barack Obama predicted Georgetown would be a force to be reckoned with in this year’s NCAA tournament. Now it appears he’s backpedaling a bit and downplaying the No. 2 seeded Hoyas.

“I love Coach Thompson, I love Georgetown’s program,” Obama said at the time. “I think they are a year away. Next year, they are going to make a great run.”

The president’s definition of a ‘great run’ must be making it to the Sweet 16. That’s how far John Thompson III’s squad advances on the bracket Obama filled out for ESPN.

Obama says Georgetown will get past Florida Gulf Coast and Oklahoma this weekend in Philadelphia, but will fall to Florida in the Sweet 16.

As for the other ‘local’ team in the tournament, Obama predicts VCU will make it to the round of 32 where they will be ousted by Michigan.

Last year Obama ranked 2,347,421 out of roughly 6.45 million entries on He incorrectly picked North Carolina to win the national championship.
