Winter’s Last Gasp Brushes by D.C. Area
LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Spring is just days away but winter made one last statement Monday morning.
Reagan National Airport got a trace amount of snow while 0.8 inches were reported at Washington Dulles International Airport, according to the National Weather Service. Prince William County and surrounding counties got about one to two inches.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. for Frederick County, Va. Earlier winter weather advisories for Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, Stafford and Carroll counties were canceled at about 9 a.m. Monday.
Temperatures hovered around the freezing mark throughout most of the D.C. area, which limited snow accumulations on roadways.
The high temperature Monday will creep into the low 40s. Snow will give way to rain Monday afternoon, and any snow accumulations on the ground should melt, possibly making for a slushy evening commute.
Some school systems didn’t take any chances with the wintry weather. Prince William County Schools are closed all day and Stafford County Schools also cancelled classes for the day.
The federal government is open.
