LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — A Catholic University student is dead following a shooting in Northeast Washington late Thursday night.

Akinwole Olu Williams, 31, of Northeast D.C., was shot in the chest while walking home from Metro just before midnight in the 1000 block of 44th Street NE, police said. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a nearby hospital.

Williams was a graduate student at Catholic University and earned his master’s degree in December. He was set to walk at the school’s graduation ceremony in May.

Police said they don’t have a motive at this time but are investigating the shooting.

Police are offering a $25,000 reward to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this murder.
