CLINTON, Md. (CBSDC) — An off-duty D.C. police officer shot at a man who was trying to steal his car outside his home in Prince George’s County on Friday morning, police said.
Prince George’s County police said the officer’s wife had just put their 9-year-old daughter in the car outside their home in the 5000 block of Vienna Drive in Clinton at about 8:20 a.m. when she went back in the house. When she came back out, she saw a man attempting to steal the car.
The woman alerted her husband, who is a D.C. police officer, and he confronted the suspect who was in the car. The child was able to safely exit the vehicle before the suspect drove the car on the lawn in the direction of the officer, who then began shooting at the suspect, according to police.
The car then crashed into another vehicle and the suspect got out of the car and fled on foot. He then got in another vehicle — described as a champagne-colored Toyota Camry with temporary tags — and still is on the loose, police said.
The suspect is described as a black male with a thin build in his late teens. He wore a black skull cap and an olive green jacket. Police said it is unknown if the suspect was hit, but said it was “definitely possible.”
Police said the incident is being investigated.
