LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Three children were injured when they were struck by a car driven by a teen receiving driving lessons Thursday night in Ashburn.

Loudoun County police said three girls — 7, 8 and 10 years old — were playing in a driveway along Morven Woods Court in Ashburn around 6:45 p.m. when the 15-year-old driving the car accidentally hit the accelerator, jumped the curb, and struck them.

Authorities say it was only recently that the teen acquired her learner’s permit.

A 7-year-old was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital and is in critical condition, but stable condition, police say.

The other two girls were taken by ambulance to the Lansdowne Campus of Inova Hospital with non life-threatening injuries and have since been released, officials say.

Police are investigating the accident.

Authorities have not yet determined whether the driver will face charges.
