WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — Organizers are expecting hundreds of District of Columbia residents for a rally aimed at stopping plans to close 13 public schools this year and another two next year.
Organizers say the rally will take place Thursday evening at the Temple of Praise in southeast Washington. The rally is being organized by Empower DC.
Empower DC says it plans to sue to try to stop the city’s school closure plan. It says the city has closed 29 public schools since 2008 but failed to study the impact of the closures and not proved they improve education.
Empower DC wants a 5-year moratorium on closures while the issue is studied.
