WASHINGTON — The U.S. Attorney’s Office says it won’t be prosecuting a hired sedan driver who was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a female passenger.

Thirty-five-year-old Anouar Trabelsi of Alexandria, Va., was arrested Wednesday by members of a fugitive task force.

Bill Miller, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, says prosecutors have reviewed the case and are “not moving forward with charges at this time.” He says Trabelsi is being released from custody, and the case remains under investigation. He declined to comment on why prosecutors decided not to pursue the case.

Trabelsi worked for Uber, a smart phone-dispatched sedan service. The alleged assault occurred in December in the driveway of the 20-year-old victim’s northwest Washington home. Trabelsi’s wife told The Washington Post that her husband is innocent.
