WASHINGTON (AP) — High demand for tickets to Broadway’s “The Book of Mormon” is stressing the Kennedy Center’s website.

When tickets went on sale Feb. 27 for donors, the ticket rush crashed the website for several hours. On Thursday, tickets went on sale to the general public. This time, the center limited access to the ticketing system, creating waiting rooms online. But the site briefly crashed again.

The center had similar problems handling demand for tickets to “Wicked” in 2011.

Kennedy Center spokesman John Dow says recent demand for “The Book of Mormon” was 50 times higher than for “Wicked.” The center has added web servers to help facilitate more sales.

“The Book of Mormon” visits Washington July 9 through Aug. 18. About 88,000 tickets are being sold for the six-week run.
