LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Police are investigating another groping incident in the Springfield area that may be connected to a series of assaults that have occurred there over the past several months.
A 32-year-old woman was placing luggage into the trunk of her car in the 6400 block of Franconia Court at around 7 p.m. Tuesday when a man grabbed her from behind.
The victim turned around and the man fled. The man was described as being between 20 and 30 years old and about 5-foot-10. He was wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans and a white ball cap.
This brings the number of possible related assault incidents to 22. Many of the victims, who range in age from 15 to 49, have described their attacker as a Hispanic male.
Police are hosting a community-wide meeting Thursday to address the string of assaults. It will be held at Crestwood Elementary School, 6010 Hanover Street in Springfield, at 7 p.m. Residents are encouraged to attend and express their questions and concerns to officers from the Franconia Police District. Police will provide a briefing along with crime prevention strategies that may help women from being victimized. A Spanish-speaking interpreter will also be present.
