Biden: Victims Will Be Loudest Voices On Gun Control
WASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President Joe Biden says he’s determined to make sure the loudest voices in the gun-control debate are the voices of the victims.
Biden says because victims like those who died in the Newtown, Conn., school shooting can’t speak for themselves, the nation has an obligation to speak for them.
He tells the annual conference of the National League of Cities that groups like the National Rifle Association are betting that the urgency to act will fade. Biden says that’s not true.
He says politicians will face worse repercussions from voters if they fail to act than if they back measures that gun rights activists oppose.
Biden is pointing to a Senate panel’s vote Tuesday to expand background checks as a sign that Congress understands the need to act quickly.
