GAITHERSBURG, Md. (CBSDC) — Fernando Josue Valenzuela is facing murder charges in connection to an intentional hit and run that occurred last December in Gaithersburg.
Police say 34-year-old Billie Jay Genies was killed when a car driven by Valenzuela, 20, struck him in the early morning hours of Dec. 5 in the 200 block of West Diamond Avenue. His brother, 35-year-old James R. Genies, was also injured.
The surviving victim claims he and his brother were given a ride in a black Honda Civic and dropped off near the Gaitherstown Plaza near Route 355 and Chestnut Street. Police say Billie Genies got into an argument with Valenzuela as the brothers exited the car.
The elder brother says Valenzuela returned a few moments later and struck them.
Police say they were able to locate an abandoned car matching the vehicle’s description a short time later.
Valenzuela, of Valley Park Court in Damascus, is being held on one count of first degree murder and one count of attempt first degree murder. A bond review hearing is scheduled for Friday afternoon.
