Principal of High-Performing School Wants to Hire Wife as Assistant
WASHINGTON — The principal of a high-performing District of Columbia school wants to hire his wife as assistant principal, drawing some objections.
When Richard Trogisch, the principal at School Without Walls Senior High School, was asked to also oversee a struggling elementary and middle school, he agreed on the condition that he is allowed to hire his wife. He says Chief of Schools John Davis agreed to his request.
Trogisch says he wants to work with his wife in leading Francis-Stevens Education Campus because she’s a strong educator. Cynthia Trogisch is currently a teacher at Hardy Middle School.
But D.C.’s ethics manual prohibits employees from appointing, employing or promoting the hiring of relatives.
Schools spokeswoman Melissa Salmanowitz says no hiring decisions have been made.
The Foggy Bottom Current first reported the arrangement.
