LAUREL, Md. (CBSDC/AP) — Investigators are trying to determine what caused a fire that destroyed playground equipment at a park in Laurel.
Firefighters were called to the Discovery Community Park on Sunday just before 4 p.m. for reports of heavy black smoke in the area. They found the playground equipment fully engulfed in flames.
City of Laurel spokesman Pete Piringer says Laurel police and Prince George’s County fire officials are investigating the blaze. They believe it was intentionally set.
The fire damage is estimated at $75,000 to $100,000. A $2,000 reward is being offered for information on the fire.
City officials plan to rebuild the playground.
