LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC)- Uh oh. Nerds may be about to turn on President Obama. There was a great disturbance in the Force Friday, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror about him mixing up his science fiction references.

“Jedi” and “Star Wars” were both trending on Twitter after the president said in a news conference on sequestration that he can’t perform a “Jedi mind meld” on Republicans to make them see eye-to-eye with him on looming federal budget cuts.

But, as fans of both the Star Wars and Star Trek series probably know, Jedi have “mind tricks” whereas Vulcans are the masters of the “mind meld.”

To be fair, there is such a thing as a “Force meld,” according to the Star Wars wiki page, “Wookieepedia.” But, it’s a reference that never appeared in the original films and was mentioned only in expanded universe novels.

Who’s willing to bet that Obama’s nerd knowledge doesn’t go that deep? But, who knows, he could have ougeeked all the members of the fuming Twitterverse.
