WHEATON, Md. (CBSDC) — Montgomery County Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a car involved in the hit and run collision that killed a Wheaton woman Tuesday night.

Authorities are searching for a Toyota Corolla made in the late 1990’s or early 2000’s that struck and killed Marlyn Eres Ali, 53, as she crossed Connecticut Avenue at Everton Street around 8:15 p.m.

Police initially declined to release information about the vehicle beyond saying it likely sustained damage to its front end.

The driver of the striking vehicle fled the area.

Ali was laying in a 5-foot wide grassy median beside the road when police arrived. She was taken Suburban Hospital and later succumbed to her injuries.

Ali was just a few blocks from her home on the 3800 block of Elby Street when she was hit, police say.

Drivers routinely travel well above the posted 45 mph speed limit on that stretch of Connecticut Avenue, but it’s unclear whether speed is a factor in the fatal collision.

Authorities ask anyone who has seen the vehicle to contact police at 240.773.6620.

The accident remains under investigation.
