LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — A.J. Smith appears set to join the Washington Redskins as a front office adviser and consultant.

The former San Diego Chargers general manager recently spent time at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis visiting with teams about potential job opportunities.

After making the rounds, Smith is choosing to work for the Redskins according to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune.

He’ll be surrounded by familiar faces as his son Kyle currently works as a scout for the team. The 63-year-old also has ties to Bruce Allen and Daniel Snyder.

The Redskins were one of three teams Smith is said to have spoken with in Indianapolis. He also spoke with the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots where he has relationships with Andy Reid and Bill Belichick.

Smith, along with former Redskins head coach Norv Turner, was fired by the Chargers at the conclusion of last season.
