LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC)- The 3-year-old child who died after being crushed by his father’s car in Oxon Hill Wednesday evening has been identified as Dominic Watkins, Jr.

Officers were called to the scene, the 600 block of Audrey Lane, around 7:30 p.m., according to Prince George’s County Police. Authorities told WUSA-9 that a father parked his car in front of an apartment complex and got out, but left the vehicle in gear.

The man’s 3-year-old son was still inside the car as it started rolling backwards. Somehow, the boy fell out of the vehicle and was crushed. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

A 2-year-old girl the father was carrying when he tried to jump back into the vehicle and put it in park was dropped and injured, as well. She has serious but non-life threatening injuries.
