Rapper 2 Chainz Busted for Pot, Poses for Picture with Cops
LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Rapper 2 Chainz is out of custody following a Thursday night arrest on marijuana related charges in Maryland.
Typically the only pictures taken inside a police station are mugshots, but two troopers with Maryland State Police bucked that notion and had their photo snapped with the rapper following his arrest.
The performer, whose real name is Tauheed Epps, was a passenger in a 2013 Ford E-13 van when it was pulled over for speeding on eastbound Route 50 and Rabbit Hill Road in Talbot County around 9:16 p.m., police say. The van is alleged to have been traveling 79 mph in a 55 mph zone.
Officers say they smelled a strong odor of marijuana when they approached the vehicle. Having probable cause, police conducted a search of the van at which point a grinder and trace amounts of marijuana were discovered inside a backpack.
The rapper was taken into custody after claiming responsibility for the bag, police say.
Epps, who received three Grammy nominations this year, was transported to the Easton Barrack where he was given a criminal citation for the marijuana and paraphernalia.
While in custody, Epps posed for a photo with two officers, allegedly at their request. Shortly thereafter, the rapper posted the photo on the social media site Instagram with the caption: “Locked me up and then wanted pictures smh.” (sic)
Maryland State Police say they are looking into the photo and are unsure exactly how it happened. The investigation is being conducted by Easton Barrack Commander Lt. Brett Black.
A court date for Epps was not immediately available.
