Verizon Names Data-Draining, Battery-Killing Apps

LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — There are plenty of lists out there that tell consumers which apps are the most entertaining or useful, but Verizon has released a different type of list that might be more beneficial to smartphone users.

Verizon recently unveiled a list of Android apps that will drain your phone’s battery or eat up your data plan at a rapid pace. Verizon says it ranked the apps based on “loss of functionality (e.g., loss of data connection), unexpected high data usage, battery draining two or three times faster than normal, and security or privacy exposure.”

The top 13 apps on Verizon’s list all are games, including Fruit Ninja Free, Draw Something and several car racing games.

Other popular apps — such as Facebook Messenger and eBay — scored high on the list but received poor scores for high data consumption.

Streaming multimedia apps such as Pandora and Netflix received the highest ratings from Verizon.
