FORT WASHINGTON, Md. (CBSDC/AP) — Prince George’s County Police say a sheriff’s deputy from Virginia shot and killed a burglar in his Fort Washington home.
Police were called to the home on Rose Marie Drive about 10:50 p.m. Tuesday. Officers say the homeowner, a deputy in Alexandria, Va., had arrived home and found his front door damaged.
Police say the deputy went inside and confronted a man, who has been identified as 20-year-old Jon Adgrain Pocknett of Indian Head, in the house. Police say the deputy shot Pocknett, who collapsed outside and was pronounced dead.
Officers say the deputy had interrupted a burglary in progress. Detectives believe more suspects may have been on the scene.
The incident is under investigation and it will be up to the Maryland State’s Attorney’s Office to decide whether or not to press charges against the deputy.
