New York Ave. Reopens Following Fatal Pedestrian Accident

LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — A fatal early morning accident is snarling traffic along the inbound lanes of New York Avenue in northeast D.C.

After being completely closed for more than two hours, two lanes of the roadway have reopened.

All inbound lanes were closed after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a car in the 1300 block of New York Avenue near Kendall Avenue around 5:20 a.m. Wednesday.

The pedestrian was not in a crosswalk at the time of the collision, police say.

Drivers are urged to take Montana Avenue to Rhode Island Avenue or Bladensburg Road to Florida Avenue as alternate routes.

A black Mercedes is believed to have struck the pedestrian. A pair of high top basketball shoes can be seen in the roadway.
