LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC)- A water main break in Laurel is still disrupting traffic and discoloring water in the area after a contractor struck the main around 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

The break occurred near the intersection of Van Dusen and Virginia Manor Roads, and both roads are shut down in both directions.

The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission says the break is large, so it could be a while before it’s repaired.

The WSSC is telling customers that low water pressure and water discoloration are to be expected. Though the discolored water is safe to drink, it may taste different than normal, and making baby formula with it is not recommended. The WSSC does not recommend washing clothing in the water, either, as material may stain.
