CHICAGO (AP) — President Barack Obama will travel to Chicago this week to address gun violence and other issues after his State of the Union address.

A Sunday statement from the White House press secretary says the president will be in Chicago on Friday for an event. He’ll also be traveling to Asheville, N.C., and Atlanta in the coming days.

Over the weekend, first lady Michelle Obama attended the funeral of 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton.

The teen’s death has renewed the nation’s debate over gun violence. Pendleton was a band majorette and honor student who was shot and killed few days after performing for events surrounding President Barack Obama’s inauguration.

Chicago Police Department spokeswoman Melissa Stratton said Sunday that they took two men, ages 18 and 20, into custody Sunday morning and are questioning them. No charges have been filed.

Police have said Pendleton was an innocent victim in a gang-related shooting.
