Wintry Mix Creating Tricky Commute, Delays Schools

LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Drivers may face a tricky commute Friday morning as a wintry mix falls in some spots as rain falls in others.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. for areas north and west of the city.

Some school systems are operating on a two-hour delay as the large storm drops a wintry mix while pushing north where New England residents are bracing for a potentially record-breaking blizzard.

The frozen mix will transition to rain later in the morning as temperatures rise. Highs in the mid-40’s are expected Friday.

In Virginia, Loudoun County schools are delayed two hours as a heavy mix of wet snow and slush falls. Road crews in that county are apparently treating roadways with rock salt as opposed to a chemical mixture because of the conditions, WNEW’s Kevin Patrick reports.

In Maryland, Howard County schools are among those opening their doors two hours late.
