LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — An elderly woman was severely injured after a fire in Montgomery County on Thursday.

Montgomery County fire and rescue personnel were called to the 8500 block of 11th Avenue in Silver Spring at about 10:45 a.m. for a fire. Officials said they believe the fire started in the kitchen as a cooking fire.

One woman was transported to a local burn center with serious, life-threatening injuries.

Fire officials are on the scene investigating the fire.
