LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — An elderly woman was injured when her car plowed into the front of a Pizza Hut in Arlington on Thursday afternoon.
Arlington County fire and police responded to the scene in the 3300 block of Lee Highway at about 1 p.m. and found the 86-year-old woman’s 2010 Honda Fit through the glass door at the front of the takeout restaurant.
The woman was trapped inside the vehicle but firefighters were able to get her out, and she was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
There were no customers inside the restaurant at the time of the crash. Four employees were in the store but behind the counter, police said.
The accident is under investigation but police said it appears the woman accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake.
Officials said the building sustained minor structural damage.
