John Wall has clearly proved his worth to the Wizards in the month he’s been back from injury, but he still has to prove himself to the rest of the league if he’d like to be considered a premier point guard in the NBA.
Trevor Ariza, who led the Wizards with 20 points in their 106-96 victory over the New York Knicks on Wednesday, says Wall is already the undisputed leader of the franchise.
“With all the new faces here in this organization, he’s been here the longest,” Ariza told 106.7 The Fan’s Holden and Danny. “He kind of knows everything inside and out though. He’s more of our emotional leader.”
Emotional leader would make sense, considering the team frequently lost focus while dropping leads late in games when he was out of the lineup. In terms of his impact on the league, Ariza feels Wall still has some work to do before he’s ranked amongst the elite.
“I think he’s in the upper middle of the pack,” Ariza said. “He has things in his game that he needs to work on, which he knows. Once he works on those things and becomes more consistent at those things, he can become one of the elite.
