LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — A man was killed when he was struck by an Amtrak train travelling just south of the Alexandria station on Thursday evening.
Police said an Amtrak train heading from New York to New Orleans struck and killed Richard Anderson, 64, of North Springfield at about 7 p.m., west of the Backlick Road overpass.
None of train 19′s 226 passengers were hurt, but they were stuck on the train for more than six hours while the accident — and a mechanical issue — were investigated.
Detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit who responded to the scene said they do not suspect foul play.
The investigation is ongoing.
