LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Police are looking for a man seen running from a fiery explosion at a sub shop in Fairfax County that injured one person Wednesday morning.
Fairfax County firefighters arrived at The Sub Shop in the 9500 block of Richmond Highway in Lorton at about 10:25 a.m. and found the store’s windows blown out and the shop engulfed in flames. Fire investigators said it appears someone intentionally threw an explosive device into the shop.
The stores’ owner, Lawrence Reese, was injured in the explosion, Lorton Patch reports. Officials said he suffered non life-threatening injuries and was transported to the Washington Hospital Burn Center for treatment.
Police said a black male was seen running away from the shop shortly after the explosion and it’s possible he suffered injuries from the explosion. A police helicopter and K9 units responded to search the area but couldn’t locate the suspect.
Damage was contained to the restaurant, but adjacent structures received minor smoke damage. Damage to the restaurant is estimated at $100,000.
The Sub Shop was gutted by a fire in 2010 and Reese had to rebuild it, Lorton Patch reports.
