WASHINGTON— D.C. police say an officer responding to a domestic argument shot and wounded a man who approached him with a knife.
Officer Araz Alali, a police spokesman, says it happened late Tuesday after a woman reported that a man she had a protective order against had shown up at her northwest Washington home.
Alali says there was a struggle and the man lunged at one of the officers with a knife. The officer then shot the man in the facial area.
Police identified the man as 46-year-old David Valentine Young. Officers say he is in stable condition at a hospital.
Police said Young has been charged with assault on a police officer and other offenses.
