WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A police major who has been with the Prince William police department for 30 years has been named the new police chief.

The Prince William Board of County Supervisors said Tuesday that Stephan M. Hudson had been selected as chief after a nationwide search.

During his time of service, Hudson has served as a patrol officer, a plain-clothes detective, sergeant and first sergeant, supervising units in juvenile, academy and patrol bureaus.

Hudson is a graduate of National-Louis University, and earned a master’s degree in criminal justice from American Public University.

He succeeds Charlie Deane, who retired.
