Oddsmakers Slowly Warming to Idea of Redskins as Contenders
LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Las Vegas is slowly warming to the idea of the Washington Redskins being Super Bowl contenders.
Entering Robert Griffin III’s rookie season, Washington was a 100/1 long shot to win Super Bowl XLVII. And although they didn’t hoist the Lombardi Trophy in Griffin’s inaugural campaign, they did win their first division title since 1999.
The odds are a little more in their favor for the 2013 season.
Prognosticators at Bovada say the odds of the RGIII and the Redskins winning Super Bowl XLVIII are 30/1. That’s a nice jump from last year’s dismal ranking and puts them 14th out of the 32 teams in the National Football League.
NFC East foes the New York Giants (20/1) and Dallas Cowboys (25/1) rank immediately ahead of Washington. The Philadelphia Eagles have odds of 35/1.
The Denver Broncos and reigning NFC champion San Francisco 49ers are the favorites to win next year at 7/1.
Rounding out the top five: New England Patriots (15/2), Green Bay Packers (10/1), Baltimore Ravens and Seattle Seahawks (12/1).
What do you think the Redskins chances are for 2013?
