Former Md. Preschool Teacher Pleads Guilty to Making Child Pornography
LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC)– Following his arrest in November, former Bethesda preschool teacher James Douglas Manring plead guilty on Monday to production of child pornography.
Federal court records show that the 54-year-old filmed his sexual abuse of several 5-year-old students while teaching school in Japan between 1996 and 1999. Manring returned the United States in 1999, bringing DVD copies of the pornography he produced with him.
An investigation by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service showed that, between April 2010 and Feb. 2011, Manring also spent about $2,000 on videos depicting young boys in sexual situations.
The case against Manring was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 to combat sexual exploitation and abuse. Both counts of production of child pornography against him carry a minimum penalty of 10 years and a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
Manring’s home is in Fredericksburg but he taught in Bethesda up until his arrest.
