LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — A man is in custody after he allegedly shot at police officers who were executing a search warrant on his home Monday morning.
Prince George’s County police arrested Jeremiah Ronald Pearson, 25, of the 3300 block of Walters Lane in Forestville early Monday morning and charged him with multiple counts of attempted murder after he opened fire on officers who were at his residence with a warrant to search his home for narcotics.
Police said they encountered a heavy steel door at Pearson’s residence and needed to use a ram to get inside shortly after 5 a.m. Just as they entered the residence, police said Pearson fired at them, with the bullet striking the steel door. Police believe Pearson’s gun then jammed, preventing him from firing additional rounds at the officers.
He then ran to a bedroom in the house where he threw the gun out the window, according to police. Once inside the resident, police were able to arrest Pearson without incident. They recovered the weapon and also discovered hundreds of rounds of ammunition, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Pearson is being transferred to the Department of Corrections where a court commissioner will determine his bond status.
