WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — Former Washington Redskins star Fred Smoot is facing a drunken driving charge in the District.
Court records show a U.S. Capitol Police officer pulled over the former player on Massachusetts Ave. on Dec. 30 because his Audi A7 did not have license plates. The documents show Smoot refused a breath test and showed signs of impairment during a field sobriety test.
Smoot was charged Jan. 10 and later pleaded not guilty. Smoot attorney Brian K. McDaniel says the former player is looking forward to telling his side of the story.
The 33-year-old former defensive back played seven seasons with the Redskins.
Smoot is next due in court on Feb. 19 for a status hearing.
