GLEN BURNIE, Md. — Crews working a water main cut a natural gas line in Glen Burnie, prompting the evacuation of 45 homes.
Officials say nine residents were still being kept from their homes Thursday morning. The line was cut about 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Baltimore Gas & Electric says an Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works crew was working on the water main when the 6-inch gas line was cut with a backhoe.
Anne Arundel County fire officials say a safety zone was established in a one-block radius around the break because of the large amount of natural gas released by the broken main.
