LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Traffic along U.S. 1 in Virginia was snarled Wednesday when a woman was struck by a van.
Fairfax County police say a 67-year-old woman was struck by a 1990 AstroVan driven by a 63-year-old man at about 9:48 a.m. on U.S. 1 southbound near Frye Road. She suffered life-threatening injuries and is in critical but stable condition, according to police.
Upon further investigation police determined that the woman crossed the street against a walk signal while the driver had a green light. Speed and alcohol are not factors in the accident, police said.
The southbound lanes of U.S. 1 were closed for about two hours as police investigated the accident. All lanes were reopened just after 11:45 a.m., police said.
