GAITHERSBURG, Md. (CBSDC) — A local high school student is making a push for a celebrity appearance at her school’s graduation this spring.
Haley Duff, a senior at Gaithersburg High School, created a video inviting daytime talk show host Ellen DeGeneres to speak at the Class of 2013′s commencement ceremony and posted it to YouTube.
In the 2:29 long video — titled “Hey Ellen – A song for Ellen DeGeneres” — Duff, 17, plays her ukulele and sings in an effort to convince DeGeneres to come down to Washington, D.C., for the school’s graduation ceremony May 31 at Constitution Hall.
The video, which was posted Jan. 12, already has nearly 1,000 views.
If DeGeneres accepts Duff’s invitation it wouldn’t be the first time a celebrity shared wisdom with Gaithersburg’s graduating class. Erin Willett, a 2007 Gaithersburg graduate and former participant on “The Voice”, spoke at last year’s graduation ceremony.
