ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A former manager at Virginia Railway Express has been sentenced to 2 years in prison for taking more than $350,000 in bribes from a contractor.
Forty-nine-year-old Kevin Jannell of Fredericksburg was sentenced Friday in federal court in Alexandria. In addition to the prison term, he was ordered to pay back $357,000 and perform 100 hours of community service.
Jannell worked as a facilities manager for VRE. He admitted taking a monthly bribe of up to $4,000 from a subcontractor that did maintenance work for the commuter railway. In exchange, prosecutors say Jarrell gave the company favorable evaluations that allowed it to keep the contract. Court papers don’t identify the company that paid the bribe.
Prosecutors say the scheme began in 2003 and ran for nearly a decade.
