WASHINGTON (CBSDC) - The Baltimore Ravens are still alive as they prepare for their toughest playoff match-up yet, the New England Patriots, for a chance to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl.
A rematch of last year’s AFC Championship, the Ray Lewis-led Ravens have a shot at redemption and needless to say, the city of Baltimore has Lombardi fever.
One of those Baltimore residents has a 7-year history of recapping the games through the play-by-play of song. Troy Johnson, along with Marc Clarke, with whom he originally worked on the Big Phat Morning Show 0n 92 Q until 2008, first arrived in the city to the North in 1999.
He quickly embraced his new home’s hometown team, and a fond appreciation for the diehard nature of its fans.
“There’s so much more of a connection between the city and the team than other places,” Johnson said.
Seven years ago, he and other members of the morning show staff began cranking out hip-hop songs to capture the essence of the most recent Ravens games, no matter the outcome.
“We thought we could do a song win, lose or draw,” Johnson said. “Every week, so we did.”
The songs are about celebrating being a fan of the Ravens; about being from Baltimore and the appreciation of where you live, as well as the connection between the people and their city that the football team represents.
Johnson has released over 100 songs since he began moonlighting as a musician, with his latest song titled “No Worries.”
