ANNAPOLIS, Md.— The trial of Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold is scheduled to begin this week.
Jury selection is set to get under way in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court on Wednesday.
Leopold is facing charges of misconduct in office for allegedly using his police detail for personal and political purposes.
The indictment accuses the 69-year-old Republican of using officers as campaign workers for his re-election campaign in 2010, when he ran for a second four-year term. Prosecutors also allege the county executive used members of his police protection squad during trysts with a county employee in parking lots.
Leopold has maintained his innocence.
Retired Judge Dennis Sweeney is hearing the case.
